What would you say? -Letter to mr. B.B.
I woke up with a burden in my chest, a certain kind that requires for me to write and say what it is I want to say. I recommend expressing oneself and moving forward in life. Perhaps being sheltered creatively and wearing a helmet is not sufficient for me. This way of creating only makes me more aware of the present situation, which involves other human beings in something we call "life."
For anyone who has any burning desire to communicate something to mr. B.B. I recommend you leave a note here, even if it is just for the sake of getting it off your chest. For instance, my letter to him would be the following:
"Dear mr. skywalker,
There was a church in Corinth fooled by false apostles back in the day... They were sheep following the light of fake shepherds. It took a faithful servant to bring them back to a place where they can understand truth, for they were spiritually weak.
...Now, how does this relate to you? mr. skywalker, the truth is you have so many sheep following you and looking up to you, why not stop being fake and start being real, for their sake? Sure, charity work is valuable and has its merits, and protecting the planet is not a bad idea at all. Yet all these works do not make you righteous. Perhaps before men it does, but I certainly don't seek the praise of people. I search for the One that is real. I speak the truth when I say that God looks at the heart.
Was I fooled again? I confused your light to be something bright that could shine over the darkness in this world. Forgive me if I thought your voice sounded like my shepherd. The truth is it nothing like it, for the love that you have is not His LOVE.
Despite all that I have said, may God bless you immensely! It would be nice to see you in heaven when the time comes.
^_^
Cheers!"
------------aaaahhhh, now that I've expressed myself, I feel much better! Thank You!!

You're right.
But there is beauty in laughter and in the experience of just talking peacefully to other human beings, even if it is in a forum. Therefore, I could say this experience has been not unlike art in process.
Art is also spiritual, and in a way it is very much connected to the the Holy Spirit, and the gifts God graciously gives. In my view, it is very much related to what I have been talking about....

ja, that was the most hilarious closing to this super intense conversation.

... but we weren't talking about Art here. were we?
lol !!

I am not compelled to further talk about the subject of art. I am content and satisfied that I do not agree with your point of view. There are those that have visions, and there are those that listen before they create. And there are those that are inspired as they create. I am not interested in explaining what is an artist...I could probably write a thesis about it... It is sufficient for me to know that my eyes are not blindfolded.

"Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. psalm 50:2"
An Artist is only a conduit between inspiration and creation, his/her work is open to surprises since he cannot know what will be the result of their work. It cannot be planned. And every technique may be used to achieve this.
When that person becomes pretentious and tries to impose meaning to their creation and give t a purpose (two completely different things), he/she's not an artist any longer, that person has just become a Craftsman. Finding a way to impose its will on the final actor whom should be none other than the Beholder.
That's why Lyrics are not considered Art, meanwhile Music is.
That's why Graphics are not considered Art, meanwhile a Painting is.
The meaning is the one YOU give it to it. Thats why it speaks to YOU.
And you're right, anything in life can be Art .
As long you choose to ignore the designer's notes.
My eyes are open but I rather drive blindfolded.
Since they've learned to deceive the 5 common senses they teach you about in school.
I've managed to grasp the world thru every other cell in this body.

Thank you Arvid for your delightful insight. Nevertheless, your definition of art is contradictory. If language is a tool to communicate, in other words, a means for humans to express themselves, then art is also. Art cannot speak to us if it has no meaning, no purpose, and no reason. Art is never silent. Even abstract art communicates in the process it was made, in the texture, in the colors used, etc. The artist can guide the viewer if he or she so desires. I agree with you that art can be open for interpretation, and this specific language is not as clear to the viewer, but it still speaks to us. I'm rather fond of art that is left for the viewer to discover and experience by himself/herself. I'd much rather believe everything in life can be art; and with the proper eyes, I'm sure you'll be able to see this too.

"Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. psalm 50:2"
"For something to be Art it can have no purpose other than itself. No function"
I read this a while ago and it made a lot of things fall into place.
Intention and meaning are entirely subjective since they're open to interpretation, especially by the beholder. And I guess you could/should NOT assign purpose to a piece of art or else it would become a tool.
Art makes you feel someone is talking to/about you. You find a meaning all on your own and you find that beautiful (Just remember the first lyrics that made you feel special). But it can too make us feel frustrated when someone else doesn't find the same meaning to it.
Something similar happens with religion. We find meaning about it.
And for people like you Joanna, it 's an infinite source of strength since the meaning you've found about it is LOVE. It doesn't get more subjective than that.
So I thank you for standing for it and bringing your own self into this place with your convictions bravely exposed.
And now, I hope, we can see how Kels' comment addresses an issue so commonly with those with weak ideals and convictions. They follow. Maybe it's just from laziness of just having to reach for our real emotions and ideas.
I myself am not devoted to any god. And I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I have found the same amount of strength and conviction from people in other religions. And all of them deserve my same amount of respect.
My belief is in the connection of every "individual" we, sometimes violently sometimes kindly, choose to ignore. So I am fascinated in that sense by the human race, because I find most of the times that is an undiscovered source of strength.
I like to think Love can be found anywhere even if we're not looking for it (most of the time we are not), but True Love is within ourselves, but it's hard to let our light shine on someone else's path.
So, may Jesus continue lighting your path Joanna. From what I know both his light and your path are infinite.
And Kels, what you've just stated has just shown an extremely interesting reason why nobody should judge anyone else. What you've said is something people discover when they're much years older than you or never at all. So age is certainly not an obstacle for your mind.
Thank you all for letting me get to know a definitely more interesting aspect of our species.
enjoy.

I'm not sure about that Kelsey. There are a lot of bands out there that are straight forward when it comes to politics, and Incubus is not an exception. They don't fear about expressing themselves in their lyrics, and in their interviews. So, basically, if I copy Mr. BB when it comes to protecting the planet, recycling, and so forth; is it okay to copy without actually caring for the planet? I think the act in itself is grandiose, even if your heart is not in the right place. I don't necessarily believe there is anything evil in letting others know about God, as long as they get knowledge of His existence, it is better than not knowing Him at all. The person can later decide if to follow or not. And, personally, if I inspire anybody to actually get closer to God, I would consider that a privilege from above.
...But I think it would be worse if they started talking about God and they had no idea what they were saying. Which can be even more detrimental, having the opposite effect of inspiring someone to seek God. In that case, they should keep their mouth close.

"Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. psalm 50:2"
i actually disagree joanna...i believe celebrities and people of higher status should keep both their politcal and religious views out of their professions. some people hold celebrities like brandon to such god-like status that they will follow and do anything that they ask. and if he started preaching, everyone would most likely follow..and though people would hear the "word of God" most would be believing for the wrong reasons..only because some celebrity told them too.
if you must find the word of God, then do it on your own. because if you are finding God because some celebrity told you to, you actually are becoming sheep inadvertantly.
--
"i will hold you close if you're afraid of heights"
I really like your answer Daniel. But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying BB is fake because he is human. And I'm also not judging his beliefs, because I don't know what he believes in, therefore, I can't judge that. Actually, he might even have more faith than I do, because he is a very active person, and he is very much into trying new things, which takes courage and faith. What I am basically saying is that he could, if he wanted to, be an example for others to become better individuals, not by action only, but by his heart as well. But nobody can change a heart, except God. In the meantime, we need lots of grace and mercy, which God provides abundantly.
--
"Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. psalm 50:2"
because we are all human and we can do things badly.. BB is just a celebrity, we cannot judge his faith by what he does.. we know what he does because he's famous, the band is famous.. meaning if you know everybody, somehow you will know that everyone is fake, everyone can lead anyone to the wrong way.. sometimes there is no wrong way, sometimes we do it because we do it..

" like a waking limb, pins and needles, nice to know you "
That's a good question...well, I conclude if you don't accept God, that means you don't accept the love that Jesus Christ exemplified at Calvary, who sacrificed Himself for everybody. Therefore, you don't accept the love and the light that Jesus offers. I'm not saying that BB doesn't know love or light per se, but I imagine he must have a distorted or limited view of it. Humans have a very limited knowledge of love compared to the knowledge that God has of love, mainly because He is love, He is light, He is truth, He is God.
--
"Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. psalm 50:2"
joanna..i have a question. after reading your analysis, i came to the conclusion that you believe because bb doesn't accept god, he doesn't know what real love and light is? correct me if my assumption is wrong.

"Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth. psalm 50:2"
Thank you! That explained a lot. And I am pretty sure I got where you are coming from, it's more clear to a 13 year old (: I am a Christian and have a strong faith! Your letter really makes me think. And I am speechless on what I should really say about it! So I just wanted to write you back and say I apprieciate the explanation!!!!

--
Dear Anita: Thank you!!! I'm glad I was able to inspire you.
Dear Alyssa: Welcome! I know you’re the youngest now in the forums. And I appreciate a lot your curiosity. (So, thank you for asking!
) I wrote this letter a year ago, but now that time has passed I can probably dissect it better and describe it objectively to you.
The lyrics of the Incubus song "Clean" gave me the final push I needed to write it and to believe that it would be better in doing so. The "being sheltered and wearing a helmet" was my paraphrase of what Mr. B.B. said in a blog in his website on July 9, 2008. Mainly, I'm not disagreeing with how he creates spontaneously, but in the fact that art can and should be done with a purpose, and give a message; ultimately, to communicate. Just as his lyrics have meaning, so does art. And what a soul wants to communicate is very important.
In my case, my soul wanted to communicate something to Mr. B.B.
He is Mr. Skywalker because during the Light Grenades tour he was using light during his performances, which I compared to a light saber. And also because of the fact that he has the potential of doing a lot of good or a lot of evil due to his celebrity status. Thus, he can either be Anakin (led by the Dark Side –which is evil), or Luke (led by the Force –which is good). [Yes, I know, I’m a nerd].
The faithful servant I'm referring to is Paul in 1st and 2nd Corinthians (from the Bible). Basically, I'm making an analogy of the people in Corinth back then and the people in the world who specifically likes Incubus. Because the people in Corinth were spiritually immature, they often followed leaders that would teach them things that were not true and/or totally omitted the truth (even though they appeared to be good leaders.)
Because I cannot speak for all fans of Incubus, I actually refer to myself as a sheep, and I become the one who is following Incubus, and listening to them, and paying attention to what they say, and what they communicate through their lyrics. I know God, albeit in a limited way, but at the time of writing this letter, I was losing my focus on Him. Then, I thought if I consider myself a lost sheep trying to follow the light of Incubus and where it leads; there might be others like me too.
This brings me to the point of being ‘real,’ which is another way of describing ‘true.’ The One who is real is Jesus. And all who have Jesus in his or her heart live in ‘reality’, and know who they follow. They are led by the ‘Force’ –the Holy Spirit, which is good. And art can bring us closer or farther away from what is true. It can lead us to true light or guide us towards perdition.
We live together; therefore, all that we do affects others. I accuse Mr. Boyd as fake, mainly because he is void of knowledge of God, yet he speaks of light and love as if he did know Him. His charity work is admirable, because giving is good. But what is even better is the condition of the heart behind the motive of giving. Giving to seek praise and acknowledgment from others doesn’t necessarily make you a caring person. Giving is better when you do it with the right heart, because this is what God is looking at when he sees us.
Then I apologize for being mistaken, even though I really wanted him to be a person that would lead others to ‘real understanding’ through his art and his lyrics. It was my mistake to believe that he was filled with the Love of Jesus. So, I leave him with the love that he has, which is not the true love that I know.
And, at the end, of course I want him to go to heaven and know who truly saves. I would also like him to have the love of Jesus Christ. [You have to consider that this is coming from somebody who believes the Bible and believes in God].
And the ‘cheers’ is me being a copycat of BB, instead of saying Ciao, or Chao, or Bye, or Sayonara, which are also very nice ways of saying Farewell.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm my worst critic, but whether I like it or not, it's finished. I already used it for a flyer I was doing for church. Its purpose has been accomplished. It's time to send it away. I'll send the original to Brielle because she was the first to answer. But if others want a copy, just let me know.
Brielle, where do you live? oops, maybe I should message you, since it's better to leave that private.

"Isaiah 52:7"
agreed, that is just amazing.

You'd really send it to me, Joanna?
wow, then you have to photo copy it so you can send it to many and save one for yourself.

Brielle, do you want it? It's kinda small though, but i'll send it you if you want me to. Just message me. It'll be a gift so, I'll probably send it in December. That way you'll forget about it, and it'll be more of a surprise. ...I hope...

"The fruit of the Spirit..."
that is beautiful! you drew that?
This is the end result of the drawing I mentioned. Do you like it? If so, let me know and I'll send it to you for Christmas.

"The way back home."
Hi everyone who comes and purposely reads this. (So be it.)
Just for the record, I'm not writing to be annoying, but I am writing to be preachy, (there is a difference). Actually, I just have enough love to say what I believe in, and to let you guys know so that nobody can say that I was selfish and I didn't tell you.
"Salvation comes through Christ, whose sacrifice brings forgiveness for our sins. Being ethical, working diligently to help others, and giving to charitable causes are all commendable, but all of our good deeds cannot save us or make us right with God. There is a 'better hope.'
This 'better covenant' is also called the new covenant or testament. It is new and better because it allows us to go directly to God through Christ. We no longer need to rely on sacrificed animals and mediating priests to obtains God's forgiveness. This new covenant is better because, while all human priests die, Christ lives forever. Priests and sacrifices could not save people, but Christ truly saves. You have access to Christ. He is available to you.
No one can add to what Jesus did to save us; our past, present, and future sins are all forgiven, and Jesus is with the Father as a sign that our sins are forgiven. If you are a Christian, remember that Christ has paid the price for your sins once and for all.
Christ is our advocate, the mediator between us and God. He looks after our interests and intercedes for us with God. The old testament high priest went before God once a year to plead for forgiveness of the nation's sins; Christ makes perpetual intercession before God for us. This wonderful assurance frees us from guilt and from fear of failure.
In Old Testament times when animals were sacrificed, they were cut into pieces, the parts were washed, the fat was burned, the blood was sprinkled, and the meat was boiled. Blood was demanded as atonement for sins. Because of the sacrificial system, the Israelites were generally aware that sin costs someone something and that they themselves were sinful. Many people take Christ work on the cross for granted. They don't realize how costly it was for Jesus to secure our forgiveness - it cost him his life and painful, temporary separation from his Father.
Because Jesus died once for all, he brought the sacrificial system to an end. He forgave sins -past, present, and future. The Jews did not need to go back to the old system because Christ, the perfect sacrifice, completed the work of redemption. You don't have to look for another way to have your sins forgiven - Christ was the final sacrifice for you.
As we better understand the Jewish sacrificial system, we see that Jesus' death served as the perfect atonement for our sins. His death brings us eternal life. How cold and stubborn it would be to refuse God's greatest gift."
Alright, I prayed for you. But it's a secret. Anyway, I didn't write this myself, I got it from a book....And yes, I can think for myself, I just happen to like it a lot to share it. I'll leave you for a while. Take care.
I'm off to draw Mr. Boyd. C'ya!

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!"."
I'm in a good mood. Even though in the past I was thrown off by Mr. Boyd's statements *(i.e. "We acted like a shephard of sorts...," and "may the force be with you"), I decided to just ignore it and post things that I think have some virtue and inspire others to be more loving. In others words, something that you and I can learn from. For instance, take a look at what I found in MYF.

@amber: yeah, i wonder about that too.
i would like to think that she still does.
