I can't love this album the way I loved Incubus' previous work (esp. Morning View! The album that definitively made Incubus my favorite band for all time, no matter what). I think the thing that gets me is that Light Grenades seems to lack any sense of cohesion. Sometimes it still throws me off, after 2 years of listening to it. There are some stand-out tracks that I absolutely love (ie: Anna Molly, Rogues, and Pendulous Threads are my personal favorites) and most of the songs have at least one redeeming hook or lyric. The problem is that I've come to expect so much from Incubus and I just felt let down with this album. I bought it the first day it came out & it's taken me 2 years to even make up my mind on how I feel about it! I really did not want to dislike this album.
What's freaking great about Incubus though, is that even though I'm not a huge fan of this album, I love how it's totally different than anything else they've ever done. Incubus the the most dynamic band in existence. These guys continually re-draw their own boundaries & then cross them. So even though, to me, Light Grenades was a relative disappointment, just looking at all the reviews from people who love it so much confirms to me that Incubus is still Incubus, so I can deal
