My Reviews & Blog

  • I was only 11 when this album came out and I, like many countless others, had heard "Drive" on el radio & wanted more. Xmas time rolled around & little pre-teen me did a happy dance in my PJ's when I saw that my mom -- I mean Santa -- had gotten me "Make Yourself". In fact I still do a happy dance when I listen to this album. Fan-fn-tastic.

  • I can't love this album the way I loved Incubus' previous work (esp. Morning View! The album that definitively made Incubus my favorite band for all time, no matter what). I think the thing that gets me is that Light Grenades seems to lack any sense of cohesion. Sometimes it still throws me off, after 2 years of listening to it. There are some stand-out tracks that I absolutely love (ie: Anna Molly, Rogues, and Pendulous Threads are my personal favorites) and most of the songs have at least one redeeming hook or lyric. The problem is that I've come to expect so much from Incubus and I just felt let down with this album. I bought it the first day it came out & it's taken me 2 years to even make up my mind on how I feel about it! I really did not want to dislike this album.
