I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...Incubus is the most exciting, creative, innovative, powerful and honest band I have heard in a very long time. The lyrics make you think-- ALWAYS. And their message really resonates with me: being an individual and not just one of the herd, thinking for yourself, always striving to be true to yourself in every aspect of your life, making it count. As I write this, I'm listening to "Make Yourself," a perfect example of this.
Not only that, but the songs are deeply felt and so expressive. Brandon is a poet and he understands the power of language and how to use it. His words paint vivid pictures in my head that stay with me long after the song is over. And he delivers them with incredible charisma, power, and energy, and with an amazingly rich and versatile voice that is, hands down, the best in rock music today. Incredible frontman, none better in any band I've ever seen. I am also blown away by his talents as an artist and writer. The man can do it all. He is pure MAGIC.
All that is matched by the power of their musicianship. They can do beautiful, evocative ballads and they can also ROCK with incredible power. Mike is amazing on that guitar. He is really a consummate musician-- keyboard, guitar, everything. Well, they all are, really.
I love the diversity of their music, and how they're never willing to settle for what's easy or formulaic. They constantly challenge themselves so that they are always growing. I so respect this. And as if all this weren't enough, they are also incredibly decent, kind, down-to-earth human beings who have integrity as musicians and as people, and really care about giving back. They're not just all talk-- they actually do it. Another reason to respect them, and something that makes them truly rare amongst their peers in the industry.
Being new to their music, I have the advantage of not being prejudiced in favor of only their earlier stuff. I have learned their entire catalogue all at once, and I love it all, while being hugely impressed by their changes from album to album. They are AMAZING. I have now seen them in concert for the first time, and it all comes down to this: No other band moves me the way that Incubus does! WOW.
I can't find them either!
Seriously! Where are the photos??
