Incubus remains a strong presence in Manila as their fans packed the humongous Araneta Coliseum last Sunday night.
Vocalist Brandon Boyd described the scene at the Big Dome as ‘surreal.’
The night before the concert, he told the media at Bar One, Crowne Plaza, where a press conference was held, that just seeing themselves in front of reporters and photographers was "dreamlike."
That "dreamlike" experience was fleshed out during the concerts as Incubus’ legions of fans sang their song, raised their arms and as expected, do the rockers' hand-sign.
Boyd was generous in saying ‘thank you’ to his fans. Incubus’ "Light Grenades Pacific Rim Tour" cocnert was more than just promoting their latest album with the same title.
Close to 20 songs were performed by the five-piece act based from Calabasas, California, including three encore numbers.
Boyd, ‘man of few words,’ who acknowledged Filipino fans by thanking them, elicited shrieks from the females when he went topless, revealing hismuscled body as he did some solo percussion taps.
The rest of the guys weren’t to be ignored. Einziger got some good response when he brought on stage and played a string instrument usually not used by rock performers.
Bassist Ben Kenney surprised everyone when he pulled off a superb support vocal to Boyd at the tail-end of "Drive." The two guys at the back, drummer Jose Pasillas II and turntable talent Chris Kilmore, showed their skills through properly timed spurts of fill-ins.
