I'm a fan for the same reason that people are fans of anything artistic. A connection to Beauty through art is just part of the human experience. And to me, Incubus makes Beautiful Art. To be cliche, it's music to my ears. But very seriously, I've been an Incubus 'fan' (aka appreciator) for years. I didn't know of them until S.C.I.E.N.C.E. but that was really all it took for me to fall in love with their sound and their style. I don't think I'm any great critic of art or anything, but something I've noticed about my favorite artists - the ones I feel have the greatest talent and the truest gifts - is that they all have a very unique style and approach to whatever it is they do. You can spot a Van Gogh out of a line-up. And I can pick out an Incubus track anywhere I go, and I don't feel that's only because I know all the songs by heart. It is that they are truly original in their works. Lots of bands are creative, yes, but it seems rare to me that a band has its very own *sound* and even more rare that it is adaptable and can withstand the test of time as Incubus has managed so well. Their music has gone in almost any direction I could think of...youthful and hardcore to jazzy and instrumental...and perhaps most daringly of all, poppy. But they've never strayed from the core of what they do. It's always still Incubus. Every song is its own journey, but it always feels like them. I think that, above all else is why I like them. It always feels honest to me, and it's like I know I can depend upon them to produce something honest. Maybe I'm just a big fan of good ol' fashioned truth. They're GENUINE and I love them (and their music) for it.

~NOTE: This is not the most well-articulated argument for being a fan, but sometimes I find it difficult to put abstract ideas into words. Originality and style kind of sum it up, but it's hard to make my true meaning known without attempting to expand through some babble as I've done.~
