Are you going to be building your own shed sometime soon? I am speaking from experience when I tell you that you really need to get shed plans to build a shed. Not just any plans but a detailed set of blueprints that will ensure you have good planning, then implementation and finally completion of the construction.

I built our first backyard shed plans a good couple of years ago, thinking that it couldn't be that hard. Well it wasn't that it was hard to put it together, but the time I wasted in buying materials, cutting them myself, only to find I cut them too short, then had to buy new wood and so on and so forth. Man! I was running between the hardware store and home I don't know how many times. Then I was told by the local homeowners association that my shed was actually illegal because I didn't have a permit to build it. Come on now, it was just a shed I thought.

Basically I wasted a lot of money because of the wasted materials and then having to pull the shed down because of the home owners association building regulations.

So before you even set finger to a hammer and nail, get yourself some plans. Make sure the plans have a detailed materials list. They should also include a cut chart that show you how to cut the wood and the dimensions you will need to cut them. I actually would recommend you buying the wood from a lumber yard and having them cut it. Yes it will cost a bit more, but it's so worth it in terms of saving time and professional finish. Really good blueprints will also come with written step by step instructions to accompany detailed drawings.
