Album Artwork
Just a simple question. Which Incubus album features your favorite album art? Personally, I love the artwork for M&M. Of the regular albums, I'd definitely go with Morning View though. Any thoughts?

yeah, but it doesn't matter if brandon does the artwork, at least not to me. i like all of the album artwork, and you know that everything past the artwork is 100% brandon, and that's what really matters :]

Yes I see!
Thanks n__n
But this means they don't do all their own album artwork.
ACLOTM and M&M are the only ones I'm sure of.

My mistake. I was hearing LG but thinking M&M! LOL
Anyway, see my post below.

Aha so it isn't Brandons art..

Checking that.
Okay. Just did a bit of digging and it seems that Alan Aldridge did the illustrations for LG. I'm surprised, because I did also think that Brandon did all the album art. But looking at the artwork for LG, I am really not surprised after all, because the illustrations are just not Brandon's style. Don't know why I didn't recognize that before.
But Brandon isn't mentioned at all for illustration or anything art related.

I am pretty sure it is Brandon's. Probably it's just that Alan Aldridge supervised the execution of the artwork.

The LG album booklet says: Art Direction and Illustration: Alan Aldridge
I always thought it was Brandons art? But it's not?

CC: I loved your explanation.
The artwork on the cover of Make Yourself is intense. I was trying to figure out if I could actually analyze it myself. Does anybody know anything about that design? To me, I looks like an Incubus and its tentacles are actually 1/4 in music cables. Thoughts?
So true, jackie!
Alyssa: Just realized I didn't really answer your question....what my daughter asked about the Dig drawing.....She asked why the girl was digging in the boy's head with a shovel, did she want to hurt his brain too. lol

Incubus has this way of making a person think deeper...

Jackie: Incredibly thoughtful interpretation. Really enjoyed reading your analysis. I can't help but agree with you.
Alyssa: I told her that sometimes the boy had not so good thoughts and feelings about himself and that the girl was helping him, digging out all that bad stuff so that the boy would be happier with himself.

I don't think I could choose one either. I like them all for different reasons. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. definitely represented who and what they were and what they believed in at that stage of life. The cover reminds me of the line "and when we finally see the subtle light this quirk in evolution will begin to let us live and recreate, recreate again. Make Yourself was this kind of mix of colors and an explosion of light that led in all different directions. Representing the thought that you don't have to follow one road...hold the wheel and drive. Forshadowing what their career would be maybe? Morning View was a very calming cover. A statement sort of like...we like where we are right now...I lean against the wind, pretend that I am weightless and in this moment I am happy. A Crow Left of the Murder I think is their "we don't give a f*** what other people think" album. We'll write and perform the music that is right for us...even straight roads meander...you can't always follow the crowd. Light Grenades is amazing because it has the most artwork of all of them. Wouldn't it be great if we could throw a grenade of hope instead of death? Remember who we are...we are people who have been given a haven and have the opportunity to protect it. But also about never giving up on what you believe in. M&M I think brings them all together. One album rippled into another...the ripple effect is too good not to mention. If you're not affected you're not paying attention, haha... It's almost like the swimmer represents us and the light draws us into the familiar and then swallows us with the unknown. And basically, their next album is still unknown to us but we can't help but follow that light!

Christine: I think it's amazing but wierd how many questions they ask but how much they sometimes can put stuff together. When I babysit, well I will tell you some of those stories later. Anyways, if you can find time to write what you daughter said about the Dig picture, I would like to hear it!

Chydie: Thanks! That's one of the sweetest things anyone's ever said to me.
And yeah, my little one is something.....
Kellen: For a 4 year old, looking at a picture of a boy with knives in his heart can be disturbing.....they take things very literal, those little people. When she asked me about that particular drawing I told her that the picture was of a boy whose heart was hurt by a girl and so he drew that picture to show how he felt. She looked at me quizzically and asked why the girl stuck those knives in his heart (this highlights the literal meaning I just mentioned), and proceeded to tell me that it wasn't very nice, that the little girl should get a time out. lol
I told her that no one actually stuck knives in his heart, but that his heart hurt so badly that's what it felt like to him. She then asked what the girl did to make his heart hurt and I told her that she told the boy she didn't love him anymore, that she didn't want to be his friend and this hurt the little boy so bad that he drew a picture of it. She turned back to the drawing, studied it for a few seconds more than turned her attention to the illustration for Dig (where a girl is literally digging into a boy's head)....needless to say.....that was another lengthy explanation. lol

i like all Incubus album artworks and i can't choose a favorite.. X)
Rosario, yes, kids can be very entertaining at times.
i think your daughter interprets just like her mother,
in an poetic romantic way.. =)
I guess I thought Brandon did the art for M&M. However, even if he didn't, it is my most favorite Incubus album art.

'cuz wihout love I won't survive
No kidding? That's awesome. When I look at the art from Light Grenades, I think of a lot of the same things. I can see how that art wouldn't frighten a child. It doesn't have a menacing tone to it. I can't really put my finger on it, but I'm drawn to that style. I believe that the artists that were used for LG and M&M are different people but they both have a major Incubus feel to them. I think the art on M&M (the cover art anyway) is loosely related to LG. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. A big deal for me also is how the art is used in live shows. The sequence with the swimmer being swallowed by the anglerfish during Quicksand was unreal. Overall though, for live stuff, I think that Crow sort of blows everything out of the water.
I have lots of thoughts...the question is.....do they pertain to your inquiry. lol
I'd have to say Light Grenades, for sure. For one the cover art really represents what the entire album is about....enlightment, ideas, love, peace, the ability that we all have to open our eyes and be the watchful observer. Aside from the cover, I love how each song is illustrated with a drawing that encompasses the meaning of that song. They are a visual representation of the lyrics and they look pretty damn cool. It's funny but my 4 year old little girl was looking at the album art one day. I was a bit worried when I realized what she was doing......some of the images.....well....can be disturbing for a 4 year old. But it didn't phase her, it in fact interested her immensely. I watched as she studied each drawing carefully before asking me questions about it. She thinks that the mouths with tongues joined on A Kiss to Send us Off is a representation of 2 people getting married. Kids are so entertaining sometimes....
