CanadaBrandon Boyd releases solo album and INCUBUS heads back to the studio

With a career that's spanned almost two decades, six albums, a handful of EP's and DVD's and a Greatest Hits album which has chronicled it all under his belt as lead singer of the multi-platinum selling band Incubus, Brandon Boyd and Epic Records are pleased to announce the July 6th release of Brandon's first solo album entitled, The Wild Trapeze. Fans can purchase a limited edition CD that ships with a personal letter and T-shirt featuring hand drawn artwork by Brandon at www.thewildtrapeze.com. The album is also exclusively available digitally on the iTunes Store.

"This group of songs was born of a very different process than the many my band and I have been employing for our almost two decades at work now. The Wild Trapeze began as pot induced meanderings on my dusty acoustic guitar while Incubus was off of the road, and has slowly been morphing into things that I originally could never have imagined," says Brandon Boyd. "So much of my identity, both personally and creatively has been attached to and related to Incubus. For better or worse! And I do believe that every person in every corner of the world asks themselves at some point on their ride, 'Who am I...today?' The Wild Trapeze is an exercise in self reliance."
In keeping with Brandon's vision to make this album his very own and what Brandon calls "Music for Music's Sake", he controlled the making of The Wild Trapeze. Brandon penned every track off the album and performed practically every instrument heard. He designed the album's artwork and co-directed the video for track, "Runaway Train" (available at music.AOL.com today) with esteemed photographer Brantley Gutierrez. When it came to producing the album, Brandon could think of no one better suited for the task than renowned producer, Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips) and set forth to record the album in Upstate NY over the past few months.
Up next for Brandon Boyd, another Incubus studio album. The quintet that is Incubus (vocalist Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger, bassist Ben Kenney, DJ Chris Kilmore and drummer Jose Pasillas) will head back into the studio later this summer to begin writing and recording a new studio album, tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.

I'm a huge Incubus fan and was very excited to hear Brandon was doing a solo album. I honesty didn't know what to expect from it. I think it's much different from Incubus, but that's a good thing. Beautiful songs, very unique. Awesome lyrics too!!!! I think I like it a little better than som of the normal Incubus stuff; because this is so unique!

My english is too bad, but I have to say that I love the solo album of Brandon. I love his voice, his paints...all of him. He made a very good job with the lyrics. "Courage and Control" is one of the most beautiful songs that i heard. And the video of "Runaway Train" simply amazing.

I'm freaking out here! It's been almost a month since i haven't been online and to think that My fave singer, Brandon Boyd has a solo album!!! I feel sooooo excited but now I'm crazy 2 buy "The wild Trapeze".

My apologies in advance for a lengthy post. I have yet to post anything on this site and feel like summing up my appreciation. Just listened to the new single, which I thoroughly enjoyed! I have been fascinated and amazed to follow Incubus through their ever-evolving sound from CD to CD. In fact, this is perhaps the aspect I appreciate most about the band; they feel free to explore their own sounds and possibilities, and allow their music to transform as they do. As I listen to the individual creations of the group, now including Brandon, I feel like I can really hear the collective genius that is Incubus. The booklet included with Brandon's single also solidifies my appreciation for his lyrics, and especially (what I have been able to grasp from readings and interviews) his attitude for music and life in general. The music in this CD is so incredibly fun and moving. I love that I can hear Brandon's enjoyment experimenting and learning about the different instruments (toys
) Thanks so much for all you guys do, your sounds are inspiring and moving (both mentally and physically!), I look forward, as always, to the next stage of this group and its members.
iTunes download issues
Thanks, clouds! I appreciate hearing from you and knowing that I can expect much better quality from the CD. I ended up ordering it (and complaining to iTunes, asking for a refund. Haven't heard back yet.), and of course, I got the download that came with the package. You're right, it is a lot better than what I got from iTunes. I don't know what went wrong, but what iTunes is selling is NOT worth the money! Somebody should make Brandon aware of how really crappy the music sounds for people purchasing the album digitally. It's such a shame, because the album itself is fantastic.
Btw-- I don't have Facebook, so can you share what Brandon said there? (Was he talking about the deliberate distortion he put in, or the problems with the iTunes download?) Thanks!

The iTunes version DOES have problems- the downloaded MP3's do not
When I saw the post on the problem with the iTunes version and Brandon's explanation on Facebook- it makes more sense now. Like the avid fan I am, I instantly had to download from itunes because I hadn't heard anything about purchasing the cd elsewhere- and there was some skipping and pretty big distortion (which sounded cool, but in other areas was a bit much) and the base was lacking- overall bad quality there- but still really loved it of course-
But I then got the emails on purchasing cd with t shirt and letter and instant downloads...so of course I needed that too! Boy was I happy I did that!!!!!!!!!!!! I just made a cd (Thank God NOT from iTunes but from the downloaded MP3's from purchase of package) to listen to in my car...AND THERE IS A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE!!!! Muuuuuuuuuuuuch better sound, the base is there, the deliberate distortion in areas sounds amazing and it sounds clear and well made (unlike the iTunes version).
I'm thinking of deleting the iTunes version and loading the MP3's to my player!! I wish we could get our money back from Apple since something bad happened in there, but at least I have the music as it SHOULD be heard by purchasing the package!!!!
Solo Album
I'm soo excited about this album. I just listened to 'Runaway Train' and it's amazing! Can't wait until I get it!! Definitely need to do another US tour soon! I went to a concert last August in MA and I didn't want it to end! I love this band, it's ridiculous!

Talk about rape. $6.98 to ship a cd in the continental United States? It's nice how it was slid in there after I confirmed the order. I guess it's my fault for not reading the not so descriptive fine print. I love to purchase music legally and support the bands that deserve it. This will be my last incubus purchase though.

sound quality on iTunes?
Anybody else buy the album through iTunes? I just did and was really excited to listen. When I did, I was really disappointed to find that the sound quality basically sucked. All fuzzy and full of intermittent distortion. Hoping they can fix it. In the meantime, I feel like I just wasted ten bucks and maybe should have ordered it as a CD instead. Has anyone else had this issue?
(That said, I LOVE The Wild Trapeze, especially Runaway Train and Revenge of the Spectral Tiger! Fantastic solo effort!)

Revenge of the Spectral Tiger....
I can't stop listening to : Revenge of the Spectral Tiger....the song is so....Awakening...it really makes me think of how WE as a species have turned on one another and our ability to love and care for each other; all for Material Gain, ( that's just my interpretation)....i picture some 1950's child born into a stifled culture, where he/she is forced to join the ranks of Corporate America and become this Tiger with the ghost of the hunt underneath...It's sad in a way, yet truthful too.

Way to go Boyd! Awesome solo album! What a wonderful surprise! Had to have a copy! "Courage and Control" is already one of my favorites. Can feel the emotion coming out of the song. First impressions are that:
1) This man has an incredibly diverse spread of talent.
2) I want to read more written works of his- the short section of words included with the cd took a great deal of my interest.
3) This set of tracks will take a little while to warm up to; like I said before, this man has a very diverse spread of talent. The Wild Trapeze exhibits ideas quite different to that of the collective ideas of Incubus.
Continue engaging our senses, please.
